MUSIC CONCEPT.

Posted in Music on May 28, 2010 by julianyorke

I have always had the idea to create a band whose music plays out to be a movie. The band would bring out and album with songs that at first would seem like a normal album style. Within the album clues would be left to track down a site that could only be accessed by answer questions about the songs content (relating to the underlying message). Once opened the site would play the movie, which incorporates all the albums songs into a full-length movie.

Musicians Daft Punk had a similar idea where all the songs off their Discovery album linked up in their music videos. Each song would tell part of the story in the video clips.

My idea is different in a number of ways:

– My music video’s would not all connect and tell the story line. They would leave clues and allude to and underlying message to the viewer.

– The lyrics themselves at first would seem unrelated but would have an underlying tone that would shape the full-length movie.

– Unlike Daft Punk my movie wouldn’t be animated it would be a full-length feature.

– The Movie itself would also incorporate the songs, which would help clarify the whole concept.

I think this approach would create mystery and curiosity around the band and promote the movie in a unique way.

This concept is really about linking the music and film industry. The movie would probably be made first and then the album to create that underlying message. I think music and film are very closely related and have profound influences on each other. I think this is a natural progression from musical films or an offshoot. They are also two passions of mine, which is why bringing them together in this unique way would be a dream come true.

THE SALESMAN

Posted in Persona on May 28, 2010 by julianyorke

He will hunt you in the night on a rooftop or a lift, a villain that you can’t take you eyes off. Dressed in crisp sharp clothes of black compliments with murderous colours he draws you in with his charm. Deep down you know his not good for you but still you are drawn to him. His character, his swagger, what does this villain have that you want so badly? You’ve developed Stockholm syndrome now, you want what society tells you to hate and fear. You think your going crazy why does he draw your attention, why can he make you do whatever he wants. His power over you is irretrievable, you want what he has and so do others. This man is a cult figure and idol of people who don’t fit into societies norm, who want what they cant have or afford and crave something different. He is a MYTH, a PERSONA; some believe he is real for others he is a persona to live by, a movement that rebels against what is seen as wrong but feels so right. You are his follower’s his victims, he can help you except. You meet him on the Rooftop, he senses a crazy calm in you, your tired of running, he’ll help you face what scoiety has told you to run from. His selling what you know you shouldn’t want; his THE SALESMEN.

BLOG’S I DIG.

The Hype Machine is a blog that I am very fond of. Although it is a site dedicated to downloading music for free it acts, as a search engine among music blog’s to find all kinds of music on the web. A friend of mine who is a DJ introduced me to hypem. Hypem really has opened my world to new and different forms of music and some incredible bands. I suggest you check it out and do what I do, if you like what you download go and buy it.

The Movie Blog is pretty self-explanatory; it’s a blog about upcoming movies and news about movies in the future. I am a movie buff and love getting information on all things related to movies: What movies are coming out, When they are coming out, who’s playing the characters etc. I also like comingson.net but that isn’t a blog. So if you’re interested in finding out what movies are coming soon or have heard a rumor and want to check its reliability go to The Movie Blog.

Chez Pim is an awesome blog dedicated to travel, food and drinking. The Guardian named it in The World’s 50 Most Powerful Blogs in 2008. I love to travel and after this course plan to travel around the world and I will defiantly by using Chez Pim. It gives heaps of information on all areas or travel, food and drinking in an easy format. If you like to travel, eat or drink check it it out.

INNOVATION, CREATIVITY & RISK.

Posted in General Blogging on May 28, 2010 by julianyorke

INNOVATION: Is the revolutionary change of thinking to produce something new and then translating those ideas into tangible societal impact.

To myself Innovation is thinking outside the box. Finding the norm and stretching it as far as I can, or leaving it completely behind. An example of innovation is the Iphone. It innovated the way in which people and technology react, how knowledge/ information is collected and the way in which people communicate.

CREATIVITY: The mental and social process of discovery, exploration and transformation of conceptual spaces. It is the connection of previously unrelated ‘matrices of thought’ to produce a creative idea.

To me creativity isn’t just thinking outside the box, it is thinking nowhere near the box. To me creativity is targeting your response and creating a concept that isn’t expected to create that response. By shifting my thought from the mainstream approach, I aim to create concepts that achieve my response in a way, which was never considered possible or relevant.  The Graphic Designer/ Typographer David Carson is a great example of this. He is widely known for his experimental typography and is rated one of the most influential designers of the nineties. At first many in his field found his work to be illegible, however over time his work proved to be a hit and silenced his critics.

RISK: Is a venture undertaken without regard to possible loss in the hope of a favorable outcome.

To me risk is a two edged blade. I guess when it comes to risk it depends on the situation. I do believe that you must take risks to succeed but most of the time they shouldn’t be taken blindly. I think you need to study and weigh up the risk and ask yourself if it’s viable. On the other hand sometimes when creating outside the box you just have to run with something and trust in your cut it will work. I believe an example of this is Baz Lurhmann’s portrayal of Romeo and Juliet. When Baz came up with the idea it was met with much criticism. He went with his gut and I believed created a spectacular movie that keeps true to the original story but translating it into the modern day.

The saving starts today, I have relinquished my credit card to my mother, SPLENDOUR is on the cards. Sure the money spent will be excessive and yes it is only for three days, but I can justify it. Old favourites;  THE STROKES, FOALS, PIXIES, ANG & JULS, LCD, SCISSOR SIS etc… Newbies like; TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB, TEMPER TRAP, YEASAYER ETC.. cannot say no to that experience.

THE WORLD THROUGH MY LENS.

Posted in Movies on March 26, 2010 by julianyorke

Like most people I am a movie buff. It’s a term hat get’s thrown around alot these days. I don’t consider myself the best but one none the less. I use to love escaping the world through mioves when I was younger and would dream my life as a movie. As I got older I realised that movies belonged on film and life to be played out through your eyes. This is when I started to view movies differently. I would watch movies for hours on end, analysing them, breaking them down into scenes and taking down notes in my head. I started to watch movies not as a movie lover but as a director. I would marvel at the camera angels and how certain scenes were a work of genius. I study movies to better my knowledge of film so that one day I may direct a film.

so thats what I aspire to be when Im older a film director. Im no practitioner yet, but I aim to be. Im studying Creative Arts at Victoria University learn skills that may further my knowledge in Film Directing. I aspire to be a successful and creative director who pushes the boundaries. I want to tell stories and translate message’s on scene. I want to connect with people through my work, even if only for a second, with one person that will do.

I would probably say my theme or style of movies would be cult films although that may change overtime. I love low budget movies that have been crafted beautifully. I also love something that is different and out there.

Hope everyone is doing well have a good w/e

peace.
